Welcome to MIUG

This year's format is somewhat different from previous year's. Heidi Schuppenhauer will explain the goals for the next few days.

How Magic is Magic?

Dan Audette from Kenmore Air Harbor and Heidi Schuppenhauer from Cabrita Software will present the story of a real development project in Magic, from inception to production. Dan will present the story from the management point of view: what it is like to work with Magic programmers, their investigation of other software products in the Airline Industry, and the eventual product development.

Heidi will present the story from the programmer's point of view, including how specific features in Magic allowed Cabrita to accomplish goals that only a handful of airlines have been able to do, and also the roadblocks that we encountered.

Following this presentation, there will be discussion time for small groups to explore this question: How Magic is Magic? Including:

How competitive are we in the marketplace, as either business owners or employee programmers?
How successful are we, as Magic programmers?
What do we need from MSE to accomplish our goals?
What are the major hindrances to us in the marketplace?
What would be the advantages/disadvantages of a developer consortium?

Dinner

Dinner will be served at 6:30. The theme is BBQ: BBQ chicken, grilled hamburgers, Pork ribs, fries, corn on the cob and apple pie for dessert. Kosher meals will be provided for those that requested them.

There will be a non-hosted bar, so this is a good time to buy a beer for your favorite Magic advice-giver!
